Chapter 99 These kids are not simple
Chapter 99 These kids are not simple
Tan Zhengchu sat on the edge of the bed, his face full of anxiety and worry.
He stared at the alarming number on the thermometer—40.2 degrees Celsius—and felt as if his heart had been gripped tightly by a giant hand.
The family doctor has already come and left some medicine, but Su Yingxue's high fever still won't go down.
Tan Zhengchu frowned, took the fever reducer to the bedside, and whispered to Su Yingxue, "Darling, take the medicine again. It might make you feel better."
Su Yingxue opened her eyes groggily and weakly replied, "Um... I feel so uncomfortable."
Tan Zhengchu fed her the medicine and helped her swallow it.
Then he sat on the edge of the bed and muttered to himself, "Observe for another two hours. If the fever doesn't break, we'll have to go to the hospital."
Su Yingxue felt as if her eyelids weighed a ton, and she was incredibly sleepy.
She said weakly to Tan Zhengchu, "I'm so sleepy, I want to sleep. Don't take me to the hospital, I hate the smell of hospitals."
Tan Zhengchu looked at her with heartache, gently tucked the blanket around her, and said tenderly, "Okay, you go to sleep first. I'll stay here with you. Call me if you feel unwell."
After saying that, he turned on his computer by the bed and started working.
However, his eyes kept unconsciously looking at Su Yingxue, his gaze full of concern.
In the morning, the seven children came over to greet Su Yingxue and then went to school hand in hand.
The morning sunlight shines on the road where the school bus travels.
In the roadside grass, a fluffy kitten is happily chasing a butterfly.
Its small figure leaped and darted through the grass, completely unaware of the danger that was about to befall it.
The school bus traveled smoothly along its designated route.
The driver focused on driving while chatting and laughing with the children.
Suddenly, the kitten darted out of the bushes.
Its light body rushed straight towards the wheels of the school bus.
The driver was terrified and instinctively slammed on the brakes. A sharp screech of brakes shattered the quiet air.
The tires rubbed violently against the ground, emitting a pungent rubber smell.
The children inside the car screamed in fright at the sudden turn of events.
Some covered their eyes, some leaned forward, and the car was in complete chaos.
Qibao was sitting by the window and witnessed the kitten being run over by a car wheel.
Her little face turned deathly pale instantly, and she burst into tears with a loud "Wah!": "Kitten! Kitten got crushed!"
Her big eyes filled with tears as she cried out, "I want to go down and see the kitten."
Erbao and Liubao exchanged a glance.
Liu Bao immediately said, "We'll go down with Qi Bao. We can't leave her alone; what if she's in danger?"
The other children gathered together and discussed it, then decided to split up.
Da Bao said, "Then we'll go to school first. Be careful, and call us if anything happens."
Erbao and Liubao followed Qibao out of the car and ran to the kitten's side.
The kitten lay on the ground, making weak meows, its body trembling slightly.
Its soft fur was stained with dust and blood, and its once bright eyes were now filled with terror and pain.
Qibao cried even harder: "It's hurt, what should we do? It's so pitiful."
Liu Bao squatted down, carefully picked up the kitten, his eyes full of pity: "Let's take it to the hospital."
After saying that, he took Qibao's hand and walked towards the car.
Erbao followed behind and said to the driver after getting in the car, "Uncle, we're going to the pet hospital. The kitten is badly injured, we need to hurry."
The driver nodded and quickly started the car.
The car arrived at the vet hospital quickly, and the children rushed inside, shouting, "Doctor! Doctor! Please save the kitten!"
Just then, a man in a white coat walked over; it was Zhao Da Kuang.
He said gently, "Don't rush, give me the kitten, let me take a look."
Liu Bao hesitated for a moment, staring into Zhao Da Kuang's eyes before handing the kitten to him.
Zhao Dakuang took the kitten, and during the treatment, he inadvertently glanced at the children.
Upon seeing this, he was startled.
He noticed that Erbao and Liubao's eyebrows and eyes bore a resemblance to Tan Zhengchu.
Moreover, the two children looked at him with wary eyes, like little hedgehogs.
He looked at Qibao again, and what he saw stunned him even more.
Qibao's delicate little face, especially her eyes, looked exactly like Su Yingxue's, as if they were carved from the same mold. The innocence and liveliness in her eyes were exactly the same.
Liu Bao noticed that Zhao Da Kuang's gaze was a bit off.
He felt that Zhao Da Kuang's gaze was like a cold tentacle, moving over him and his friends, carrying a sense of inquiry and unusualness.
Those eyes seemed to hold countless secrets, sending a chill down Liu Bao's spine.
He frowned, his vigilance instantly heightened.
He stepped forward, shielding Qibao behind him, his body leaning slightly forward like a small city wall, separating Zhao Da Kuang and Qibao.
He stared coldly at Zhao Da Kuang, his eyes as sharp as a wolf cub's, and said in a serious tone, "You'd better teach the kitten a lesson, or we won't let you off the hook."
Erbao took out his wallet from his pocket, opened it, and said to Zhao Dakuang, "Uncle, how much does it cost to treat the kitten? We'll pay."
Zhao Da Kuang was initially shocked and at a loss for what to do, but he quickly regained his composure.
He rolled his eyes and said with a smile, "Well, the treatment and medicine will probably cost around a thousand yuan. This kitten is badly injured."
Erbao frowned, looking somewhat embarrassed, and said, "So much? We didn't bring that much money."
Liu Bao whispered to Er Bao, "Er Bao, no matter how much it costs, get the kitten treated first."
Zhao Da Kuang's lips curled up slightly, and he said, "But seeing that you are just kids, and quite kind-hearted, just give me five hundred yuan for ice, that will ease the kitten's pain."
Erbao took out five hundred yuan and handed it to Zhao Dakuang.
Zhao Da Kuang took the money, thinking to himself, "These kids are not simple. I can't underestimate them. I need to find another way to get close to Qi Bao."
After treating the kitten, Zhao Dakuang said to the children, "The kitten is fine now. You can pet it, but be gentle."
The children gathered around and happily petted the kitten.
Qibao still had tear stains on his face, but he had already smiled.
She gently stroked the kitten's fur and said, "Thank goodness, the kitten is alright. You scared me to death."
Zhao Dakuang stood aside, watching the children play with the kitten.
He secretly pondered: "These children are not simple. We can't act rashly. We need to change our strategy."
"It would be best to start with Qibao; she's the youngest, and her relationship with Su Yingxue is definitely special."
Tan Zhengchu stayed at home with Su Yingxue, wiping her face with a damp towel from time to time to cool her down.
He would speak to her softly from time to time, even though he knew she probably couldn't hear him: "Baby, you must get better soon. When you get better, we'll take the children out to play together."
Su Yingxue was still unconscious, her brows slightly furrowed, as if she were having a nightmare, occasionally muttering some unintelligible words.
