Vol. 1 - Ch. 292 - Victory
The terrifying power drain left Ji Yang with enough strength for only two more strikes. His clansmen were currently engaged with the enemy, which made it difficult for him to intervene. However, if he withdrew the Withered Wood Revives Spring, he would lose the strength he had just displayed.
The reinforced roots alone could not hold back these foes.
As his thoughts raced, Ji Yang’s gaze shifted to the sky, where Chen Changming and the other soul bodies were hovering, watching the battle. With the Armor of Souls dissipated, they had some energy left but could do nothing but watch helplessly. Currently, Chen Changming’s group was as anxious as ants on a hot pan but powerless to help.
The recent battle had also weakened their soul bodies. Even if Ji Yang re-armored them now, they could not regain their former strength.
However, when Ji Yang looked around at the countless drifting souls, an idea quickly formed in his mind.
The next instant, his consciousness spread outward. Streams of Soul Qi flowed from him, surging toward the recently deceased Shi clansmen.
The battlefield trembled as the dead were drawn into his plan.
Infused with countless streams of Soul Qi, the newly fallen Shi clansmen caught between life and death with unrestored memories did not realize what was happening.
Instead, they felt their bodies radiate with endless light, as if they were bathed in a warm spring. Comfort washed over them, and a strange thought arose in their minds:
"Are we ascending to the heavens?"
Smiles of bliss spread across their faces. They cast aside all worldly worries and embraced the brilliance before them as if welcoming salvation.
Beneath that radiance, their souls were released one by one transcended leaving behind only pure Yin Qi and Soul Qi.
Once all the Shi warriors had been absolved, several fresh locust leaves drifted down from the dense canopy above and landed before Chen Changming and the others.
At the same time, the Yin Qi left behind surged into their soul bodies.
The remnants of dozens of powerful warriors condensed into this influx, and the effect was immediate. The soul bodies of Chen Changming’s group began to solidify rapidly.
In mere moments, several of those who had reached the Blood Coagulation Realm broke through to the Innate Realm, their strength rising to new heights.
The locust leaves transformed into brand-new armor before their eyes, covering them completely!
Realizing that they had grown stronger and could rejoin the battle, Chen Changming and the others were overjoyed. Without thanking the Divine Tree, they swiftly rushed back to the battlefield.
After this, Ji Yang’s towering figure gradually shrank, and his mighty consciousness slowly began to blur.
At that moment, his vitality was reduced to ten points.
When he had just been resurrected, those ten points had been sufficient.
However, now that his roots stretched far and wide and his trunk had grown thick and massive, those ten points were far from enough to sustain his body.
Sensing that he was about to fall asleep, Ji Yang used his strengthened roots one last time to crawl back to the ancestral hall and the Natural Blood Spring.
As his consciousness faded completely, his final sight was of Shi Chengyi and several Innate Realm martial artists being besieged.
“Kill!”
On the battlefield, Shi Chengyi gazed at the countless clansmen lying in pools of blood. Despair filled his eyes.
It was a battle they should have won. Yet, he could not fathom why the family had been defeated. Even Uncle He Zhang of the clan had perished here!
But now, there was no time left for him to ponder. Ever since he watched Clan Uncle He Zhang get trapped by the Divine Tree and get smashed to pulp, he knew the family was finished. Utterly finished!
With the loss of a martial artist in the Qi Manipulation Realm, several warriors in the Innate Realm, and nearly all the fighters in the Blood Coagulation realm, the remaining strength in Yong’an City was powerless to turn the tide.
He did not know what path the family should take next. Nor was that a question for him to consider at that moment.
“Ah!”
Seeing another Innate Realm martial artist of the clan get killed by armored soldiers didn't upset Shi Hezhang.
The family was beyond saving. He would die here too.
This truth was already clear to him. Such was the way of clan wars.
The victor lives; the defeated perish!
The long years of peace in Yong’an City had simply made him forget the hardships his family endured to reach their current position.
As he watched the flashing blades before him, the despair in Shi Chengyi’s eyes gradually gave way to his fighting spirit from years past.
He had once been the clan’s prodigy.
Even if he were to die, he would use every last ounce of strength to cut down one final enemy.
However, when he poured all his power into piercing the head of the armored soldier before him and saw the man still moving as if nothing had happened, his eyes filled with bitter unwillingness and rage.
"Damn it! What in the world are these things? I refuse to accept this!"
…
"Reporting to the Clan Leader, all invading enemies have been slain!"
Bathed in moonlight, Chen Xingzhen looked upon the bloodied clansmen before him, some missing an arm, yet all brimming with spirit, and nodded repeatedly.
"Good! Good! Good!"
"Our Chen Clan has triumphed!"
Upon hearing these words, the surviving clansmen on the battlefield could not help but weep tears of joy.
Their fists were already stained with blood.
The white bones in their hands had long since lost their luster.
The qi and blood within their bodies had been drained dry.
That vast ocean of green light had long since been exhausted.
They had either died, sustained grievous wounds, or been left broken and incomplete.
Yet, no matter the process, they had won in the end!
Not far away, Chen Qingyu, whose qi and blood had recovered slightly, silently gazed at the corpses scattered across the ground. Though most were members of the Shi Clan, many of his own family lay among them as well.
As he walked forward, he saw familiar faces—elders who had encouraged him, peers who had grown up with him, and younger clansmen who had admired him and looked up to him.
Now, all of these clansmen had become lifeless bodies, about to journey to another world.
Despite the presence of the Divine Tree as their guardian, Chen Qingyu felt a trace of guilt.
As one of the clan’s young prodigies, he should have protected his people from harm. He should have taken responsibility for ensuring the clan’s prosperity. He should have saved his family from peril.
This time, however, he disappointed his clansmen.
Even the sword strike he had poured his strength into failed to kill or even wound the enemy.
He was too weak!
"Qingyu, you've already done more than enough!"
"If not for that strike, even the Divine Tree would have had to expend effort to shatter that stone."
Behind him, Chen Tianyu, who was left with only a single arm, patted Chen Qingyu’s shoulder, offering words of comfort.
Chen Qingyu lowered his head slightly, remaining silent.
"The clan still has the Divine Tree! The fallen clansmen will all return!”
Besides, didn’t the clan win? Once our people are revived, they will rejoice in the family’s victory too.”
"...Mm. Second Uncle, I understand.”
Chen Qingyu slowly raised his head, and a faint glimmer of color returned to his eyes.
